Spurs agree £5m deal

Tottenham today announced they have extended their sponsorship deal with holiday company Thomson for another two years in a deal worth around £5million.

Thomson became the first holiday firm to sponsor a Premiership club when they signed their original deal two years ago. The agreement includes bonuses if Spurs qualify for Europe, win the Premiership or lift any of the domestic cup competitions.

Chairman Daniel Levy, who was at the club's annual general meeting in London today, said: "We are delighted to continue our partnership with Thomson for a further two years.

"Not only does the sponsorship align the club with a leading brand, it gives genuine benefits to our business and our loyal supporters. "This extension is a testament to the hard work that has gone in to leveraging the sponsorship."

The deal is understood to be among the top five shirt sponsorships within the Premiership, with Manchester United's Vodafone contract worth £36m over four years being the most lucrative.

Levy was today expected to announce what will happen about David Pleat's position at the club. Pleat, the club's director of football, is currently acting manager with Chris Hughton his first-team coach.

Levy will also be questioned about how much money will be available for players from the Thomson deal.

Spurs were today linked with a fresh move for Santos's Brazilian teenager Diego, but Pleat said: "I will not be saying anything about it at the moment."

Spurs will continue to feature the red 'smile' logo on the club's shirt and the deal also extends to the ladies team.
