Spurs deny new Reid bid

14 April 2012

Tottenham today denied making a new bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Andy Reid.

The east midlands club, who claim they turned down a £5million offer from Spurs for the Republic of Ireland winger in January, announced yesterday that a new £3million offer has since been received and knocked back.

But a Tottenham spokesman today insisted: "Andy Reid is a player we admire but we have not made an offer for him."

On the day their £11million former player Sergei Rebrov joined West Ham for free, the Premiership club also hit back at Swindon manager Andy King who accused them of reneging on an agreement to provide a player on loan as part of the deal which recently took England under-16 captain Mills to White Hart Lane.

"We are not contracted as part of the Leigh Mills transfer to guarantee a player on loan but we have agreed to make our best endeavours," said a statement.

"At this stage our coaching staff are still assessing the abilities of our players along with injuries that have arisen in pre-season.

"As soon as they can establish a short-list of possible players for loan we shall pass this to Swindon first. It should be remembered, however, that the final decision is always down to the player."

Ukrainian Rebrov, released by Spurs earlier this year, could make his debut against Anderlecht in a pre-season friendly at Upton Park on Saturday.
