Spurs misfit David Bentley in Aston Villa talks

Moving on? David Bentley is not thought to be part of Harry Redknapp's long-term plans
13 April 2012

David Bentley is planning a Tottenham escape this summer and admits he is in talks over a switch to Aston Villa.

The England midfielder made a £16million move from Blackburn last summer but has struggled to make an impact at White Hart Lane under Harry Redknapp.

Bentley has also fallen away from Fabio Capello's World Cup plans and hopes a transfer will revive his career. The 24-year-old said: "I'm in talks with Aston Villa at the moment. I really don't want to say much more but we'll see what happens. I'm hopeful of sorting it as soon as possible."

Spurs will accept an offer in the region of £7m for Bentley, but boss Redknapp is also weighing up a swap deal for Ashley Young which would see Jermaine Jenas move to Villa Park too.
