Stam backs Spurs for Europe

13 April 2012

Jaap Stam today backed Tottenham to qualify for Europe this season.

The former Manchester United defender was impressed with Spurs, and particularly Matthew Etherington, when playing for Lazio in last Sunday's drawn friendly at White Hart Lane.

"Spurs played very well and looked hungry and confident," he told icons.com. "I was very impressed with them.

"They were always a strange team to play when I was with United because you never knew how'd they play. They could be brilliant one game and poor the next but from what I saw at White Hart Lane, they certainly appeared to be a lot more self-assured and purposeful. I was surprised they didn't qualify for Europe this season but I'd back them to put that right this year."
