Sven wants Spurs star Gardner

13 April 2012

Sven Goran Eriksson has lined up Anthony Gardner for a £3million move to Manchester City.

The Swede is in talks with the Spurs defender and wants him to fill the gap caused by Sylvain Distin's move to Portsmouth.

Eriksson gave Gardner an England cap three years ago but a series of injuries restricted his chances at Spurs.

The Swede is also considering Barcelona's Thiago Motta as a midfield enforcer and team-mate Ludovic Giuly as he steps up recruitment following the £8.8m deal for striker Rolando Bianchi from Reggina.

Porto skipper Lucho Gonzalez, rated at £13.5m, has taken Eriksson's eye but he is likely to join Valencia, who have tabled a £12m bid. West Ham, Spurs and Aston Villa are interested, too.
