Symonds inspires Aussies

12 April 2012

Andrew Symonds' unbeaten 162 helped Australia stage a remarkable recovery before being dismissed for 463 at the end of their first innings on the second day of the second Test against India.

The hosts had looked in trouble midway through the first day when they were 134 for six but impressive displays from Symonds, Brad Hogg and Brett Lee dragged Australia back on course for a 16th consecutive Test victory.

By lunch on day two India had yet to pick up a run in their innings after three overs.

Having resumed in the morning 376 for seven, Australia's Lee racked up his fourth Test half-century before he was out lbw for 59.

Mitchell Johnson hit 28 runs off 30 balls before he was caught on leg-side boundary while Stuart Clark was trapped lbw for a duck by Anil Kumble.

Symonds, who had finished the opening day on 137, added a further 25 runs before leaving the SCG to a standing ovation.

Australia lead the four-match series 1-0.
