Tiger Woods to compete in The Open at St Andrews

13 April 2012

Tiger Woods has confirmed he will compete in The Open at St Andrews in July.

The 34-year-old will aim to become the first player to become a three-time Open champion in Scotland after his victories in 2000 and 2005.

Organisers had been confident Woods would compete at the event from July 15-18 and the American confirmed on his website it was on his schedule.

The world number one, triumphant at the Home of Golf by eight shots in 2000 and by five in 2005, returned to the game at The Masters last month after five months out because of a sex scandal.

Woods has played in three events in all but was forced to pull out of the Players' Championship a little over a week ago with an injury which was later diagnosed as an inflamed joint in his neck.

He is expected to make a full recovery.
