Tonga no match for England

England doused the fire of the passionate Tongans to remain on course for a place in the inaugural Federation Shield with a 40-18 win.

Paul Cullen's youngsters followed up their opening win over France with an equally impressive seven-try display in a lively match at the Twickenham Stoop. England's young forwards had their hands full coping with the brute force of a physical Tongan side led by Harlequins' Solomon Haumono but they had enough class to see them home.

Bradford loose forward Brett Ferres and Leeds centre Ashley Gibson, who scored two tries and demonstrated his versatility with a stint at hooker, underlined their growing reputations with impressive performances.
