Trescothick ready for Ashes

12 April 2012

Marcus Trescothick insists he is "raring to go" as England bid to retain the Ashes after recovering from illness.

The England opener was diagnosed with a stress-related illness after the then stand-in captain withdrew from the tour of India. However, the 30-year-old is adamant he has fully recovered and is looking forward to next month's Ashes series Down Under.

"I want to get back on the plane now, I want to get going and feel the bat in my hands again. The buzz is back, the energy is back, I'm fit and raring to go," Trescothick told the Daily Mirror.

"I've been through the mill, and not even my own team-mates knew what was going on. I only told one or two - and even they didn't know the full extent of what was happening.

"But the England management have been very supportive, the Professional Cricketers' Association have helped me no end, and an extended break has given me both the chance to take stock and the boost I needed to kick on again.

"The constant treadmill of playing, training and being away from home non-stop took its toll.

"But the possibility of being on the road for six months doesn't worry me - doing well in the Ashes and the World Cup would be perfect therapy."
