Trial jockeys may face BHA disciplinary action

The British Horseracing Authority's legal advisers are considering whether to launch disciplinary action against Fergal Lynch and Darren Williams, two of the jockeys involved in the Old Bailey race-fixing trial that collapsed last December.

Former champion Kieren Fallon, suspended until September next year for failing a drugs test, could also be dragged into the proceedings following allegations of his links to Mark and Bruce Bennett, whose activities on betting exchange Betfair were highlighted by Panorama last night.

Until now, attempts to investigate whether evidence suggested breaches of racing's rules have been hampered by a refusal of both the City of London Police and Crown Prosecution Service to release vital documents to the BHA.

These were made available 24 hours before last night's broadcast. BHA chief executive Nic Coward said: 'We now intend to proceed with this as a matter of urgency.'
