Miles Tunnicliff was today celebrating his win at the Great North Open at Slaley Hall.

The 33-year-old's mother died of cancer two weeks ago and almost her final words to him were: "Go and win a tournament."

In his first event since her death, Tunnicliff gave the performance of his life winning by four shots from Sven Struver of Germany and picking up prize money of £100,000.

"You don't expect something like this to happen - it's changed my career completely," the Englishman said of his first tour win.

Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson defended his Greater Hartford Open in Connecticut beating Jonathan Kaye and Davis Love III by a stroke.
