Usain Bolt: I want to be a long jumper

Usain Bolt wants to have a go at long jump in 2016
13 April 2012

Usain Bolt is planning to continue his career as a long jumper if he is successful in retaining his 100 metres and 200m titles at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The 23-year-old Jamaican has again denied he is planning to step up to the 400m but instead announced he would like to compete in the long jump discipline at the 2016 Olympics.

"I'm hoping not," Bolt replied to the frequently asked question about stepping up to the one-lap event.

"If I win the sprint races in the 2012 Olympics in London I will try the long jump at the following Olympics.

"I will have to retire (from sprinting) because people will be sick of seeing me win.

"I'm hoping I don't lose because if I did I would have to try and redeem myself."
