Van Bommel ready to start multi-club talks

13 April 2012

Tottenham will speak with Mark van Bommel in the next month to discover if he will be at White Hart Lane next season.

The PSV Eindhoven star revealed after the goalless draw against France in Rotterdam on Wednesday that he will have the choice of three clubs this summer, with Spurs facing competition from German sides Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund.

An initial bid from Tottenham of around £2million fell way short of PSV's valuation. They want at least £5m for the Dutch international, who will be 27 later this month.

"I will be speaking to three clubs in the next three weeks or so," said Van Bommel. "Tottenham is a big club, a sleeping giant. I grew up watching Tottenham on TV. We watch all the English games over here."

Meanwhile, Spurs have a number of injury worries ahead of the visit by Chelsea tomorrow, although Irish pair Stephen Carr and Gary Doherty have not been ruled out. Carr returned from international duty with a knee problem and Doherty hurt his ankle in the 2-1 win against the Czech Republic.

There are also doubts over Ledley King (hamstring), Simon Davies (shin), Mauricio Taricco (thigh), Dean Richards (virus), Christian Ziege (groin) and Darren Anderton (heel).
