Vialli: di Matteo should coach

Roberto di Matteo has been told to consider becoming a manager - by his former Chelsea boss Gianluca Vialli.

Di Matteo announced his retirement from playing football yesterday because of an injury suffered in a UEFA Cup tie against St Gallen in September 2000.

Vialli said: "It is a big blow for Robbie, and I feel very sorry for him. But I hope that he finds something as exciting as playing football to have in his life.

"He's got enough knowledge about the game to become a coach. Football is like an addiction and I think he will be back."
