Vieira cannot help 'cracked' Arsenal

Arsenal will again be without Patrick Vieira as they attempt to get their season back on track against Leeds on Sunday.

The French midfielder, who injured an ankle in his country's recent friendly in Turkey, will miss the Premiership match at Elland Road after missing the defeats at Everton and Spartak Moscow.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted his side "physically cracked" in Wednesday's Champions League game in Moscow but said he is positive about the trip to Leeds.

However, there was not too much from the treatment room to fuel that optimism. As well as Vieira, Arsenal will be without Gilles Grimandi and goalkeeper David Seaman.

Leeds have their own problems. Goalkeeper Nigel Martyn will be out of action until at least Christmas after breaking down in training.

Meanwhile, Tottenham keep faith with the youngsters who beat Liverpool on Sunday for tomorrow's White Hart Lane match against Leicester.

Alton Thelwell and Ledley King keep their places but manager George Graham said: "The Liverpool game was a fairly open one but I expect this one to be a grind. All I would ask is for our fans to be patient."
