West Ham v Sunderland

14 April 2012

(3pm, Upton Park).
Tickets: Sold out
Last season: 1 (Sinclair) 1 (Phillips)
Fact: West Ham were last beaten by Sunderland at home in April 1984. Sunderland have lost just one of their last 11 league games
Recommended pub: The Prince of Wales (56 Princes Terrace)
There was a time when West Ham would have taken one look at the state of the Walsall allotment they called a pitch and jacked it in. Not these days, though, not when King Kanoute is banging 'em in from all angles and especially not when Nigel Winterburn and Stuart Pearce are concerned. Pearce, 39 in April, may be at an age when he should be planning a BUPA health check, but it's the opposition whose welfare is under threat. Pearce and his West Ham team-mates must, however, be at their most competitive tomorrow against a Sunderland team who could go second if they win.
VERDICT: PSYCHO ON A WINNER
