Wilkins warning to Lions

Ray Wilkins admits Millwall will have to cope with the pressure as they bid for a play-off slot and a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

A fine last-minute header by Tim Cahill sealed a 2-1 win for the Lions last night and took them up to sixth position in Division One.

But assistant manager Wilkins admitted that the players will be under pressure in the next month, a spell in which they play seven key games including the FA Cup quarter-final against Tranmere.

Wilkins said: 'Now is the hardest part of the season. We are playing for the pot. We have forced our way into the top six so now it is pressure time. It's a different type of football.

'I don't think we can talk about the play-offs at this stage. We have to keep the lads as focused as we can. It shouldn't be a problem with this group of boys. They deserve credit for the way they have pushed into the top six.'

Millwall have won four games in a row and lost once in 14 games, a period that has seen just nine goals conceded.

The confidence was evident as the Lions were able to overcome an 89th minute equaliser from the penalty spot after Neil Harris had given them the lead in the first half with his sixth goal of the season.

Cahill, who once again covered every blade of grass in a tireless performance, soared high above the Rotherham defence in the last minute to head home an excellent Peter Sweeney cross and give Millwall a slightly fortuitous win.

The players' celebration and the look of relief on the face of player-manager Dennis Wise' face showed they knew they had got out of jail.

Wilkins added: 'I asked the players afterwards if we have ever won by more than one goal. It was a titanic struggle at the end and a wonderful goal to win it for us.'
