Wycombe heroes on £130 a man

13 April 2012

Wycombe's FA Cup heroes will pick up just £130 a man win bonus for beating Leicester and reaching the semi-finals.

Lawrie Sanchez's team had not gambled on breaking their club record of reaching round three in football's oldest knockout competition, let alone making the semis.

The players negotiated the £130 after tax figure in pre-season talks with larger league win pay-outs taking preference.

That is just under a quarter of what the Chairboys receive for a league win.

Long-serving trio Jason Cousins, Dave Carroll and Keith Ryan represented the players at a summer meeting to arrange the squad's incentive scheme for the campaign and decided to all-but neglect cup bonuses in order to retain their substantially larger league victory pay-outs.

Ironically, their league form has dipped since Christmas with injuries and the cup fever in the Buckinghamshire town taking its toll.

It has left them nervously peeking over their shoulders at the relegation scrap below, having started the campaign as genuine Division Two play-off contenders.
