Nick Grimshaw’s Radio One Breakfast Show has surged in ratings, having gained 80,000 new weekly listeners.

Last year the morning show had plummeted to its lowest listening figures since it began back in 1967, dropping to a weekly listenership of under five million.

In the third quarter of 2017, the DJ saw his listeners plunge to the lowest he’d had in his five year tenure.

But it seems that Grimmy has pulled it back from the brink, with his ratings climbing to 5.72 million in the last quarter of last year.

According to the latest figures from audience research body, Rajar, this marks a significant boost for the show.

“Very pleased that Radio 1 continues to grow both on-air and online – we just got a record 1.87 billion YouTube views – which means more new, young and diverse audiences enjoying the BBC", said Radio 1 controller, Ben Cooper.

Radio 4’s Today show is also being listened to more, drawing an improved 7.14 million weekly listeners in the last part of 2017.
