Where to go and what to do in glamour town?

A-list bistro: Chez Joe (aka Le Canastel), 1 Impasse Feniers. You'll have a higher-than-average chance here of spotting celebrities, who have long used Chez Joe as their haunt.

New hot spot for summer: Spoon at Byblos, Avenue Paul Signac. Alain Ducasse's new mix-and-match world food bistro, with other branches in London, Paris, Tokyo and Mauritius.

Celebrity hideout: Le Cafè, Place des Lices. This unassuming cafÈ holds more than meets the eye - it draws local pètanque players but also celebrities, who hide in the restaurant at the back.

The be-seen-at beach club: Club 55, Baie de Pampelonne. Open since the 1950s, Club 55 remains popular for its inimitable seaside setting, grilled fish and salads.

Hippest nightclub: Le VIP Room, Rèsidences du Nouveau Port. The newest club - but beware the bouncers' unforgiving gaze.
